This much-loved bach has been part of the same family’s story since the day it was first built. Its walls have held decades of memories - sleepy summer mornings, noisy family dinners, kids playing darts, and quiet evenings watching the lake settle into dusk. When it came time to renovate, the goal wasn’t just to modernise; it was to create a place where multiple generations could continue to gather, grow, and make new memories without losing the soul of what had always made this home special.
From the outside, the bach appears understated, its monochromatic exterior offering little hint of what unfolds beyond the front door. Step inside, though, and the atmosphere shifts instantly. The interior wraps you in a cosy warmth reminiscent of a rustic hunting cabin - earthy textures, rich timber, and thoughtful details that speak to both craftsmanship and nostalgia.
Every element of the renovation was carefully considered. The panelled master bedroom feels intimate and grounding with views out across the lake. The tiled bathroom and laundry, complete with grooved ply ceilings and walls, blend seamlessly with the original character of the home, creating a harmony between old and new.
Honouring the bach’s original character was paramount for our clients. Wherever possible, existing Rimu was carefully stripped back and reused, allowing treasured elements of the family’s past to be carried forward into the next chapter of the home. Look closely and you’ll find childhood doodles and tiny indentations from a once-loved dartboard etched into the recycled battens—small, imperfect details that speak volumes.
With sleeping space at a premium and family gatherings steadily growing, an extra bedroom was added. A previously unused porch has been transformed into a cozy bunk room, where the original weatherboards now serve as a striking feature wall, and the entrance is marked by a bold red barn door. Meanwhile, the kitchen was extended and thoughtfully reimagined, creating a generous space for cooking, sharing meals, and celebrating together.
A couple of the renovation’s most cherished features include the island bench, beautifully crafted from the current owner’s childhood bed frame, and a bespoke copper rangehood fashioned from copper reclaimed from an old washing machine. Paired with artisan moss-toned tiles and deep green cabinetry, the kitchen has become a captivating centrepiece - an artful blend of heritage, memory, and modern craftsmanship.
To embrace the natural beauty beyond its walls, expansive decks were added, creating year-round spaces for entertaining, relaxing, and soaking in uninterrupted views of the lake. It’s the perfect place for family to gather, just as they have for generations - only now with room for many more to join in.
